Responsible Investing

Beyond financial performance, we value the principles of socially responsible investing as part of our investment approach.

Socially responsible investing not only makes sense, it supports our mission to generate added value for our clients. We understand that integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into the way we make investment decisions helps us identify and manage risk while delivering long-term performance for our clients.

A key contributor

Montrusco Bolton prides itself as an advocate of responsible investing in Canada, by promoting the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI).

A signatory to the United Nations-backed PRI, Montrusco Bolton encourages the companies in which it invests to develop policies on key ESG issues related to their business activities and to establish practices which comply with recognized international standards:

Our beliefs

We believe that companies with strong corporate governance practices, that effectively manage the environmental and social impacts of their business activities, are more likely to achieve enhanced performance and to generate long-term value for both shareholders and society as a whole.

We also believe that active ownership strategies and the integration of ESG factors into asset selection are effective ways to address ESG issues in our portfolios. The integration of ESG factors into asset selection complements our investment style, which utilizes a bottom‑up, fundamental approach to evaluating portfolio candidates. Active ownership strategies support our philosophy of investing for the long term.

Montrusco Bolton applies an ESG filter to all of its fundamental strategies. As a result, stocks that are in the tobacco, gaming, adult entertainment and inhumane weapons business are excluded from our portfolios.
